The Bishop's Letter.

Bishop's Court, • ' ' Napier, 17th September, 1945. My dear People, * The Diocesan Synod will meet on Thursday, October 11th and continue over the week end. To many minds Synod is a dull, formal affair associated with much argument, red taperand many meals. But it is a necessary part of Church life, and is very much just what the members make it. The Diocese of Waiapu has a reputation for happy gatherings, where, principles can be contested quite apart from personalities, and where the business of the Diocese is done with justice and efficiency. Synods are conducted under Parliamentary procedure, and it is comething of a handicap that under our system the Presiding Bishop has to play the dual parts of both Speaker and Leader of the House. I trust that members will deal kindly with me at this my first attempt, and that We may be able to keep the high standard of sound reasoning and good fellowship which has marked, the Diocese up to the present. May I take this opportunity of expressing my gratitude to all who can respond to the JDean's request for hospitality to visiting members? That is a big demand m these days, but lam sure that our members will prove to be as. little trouble as possible and fully aware of the domestic difficulties of to-day. The prayers "of all are asked upon the doings and deliberations of the Synod, and it would help the corporate life of the Diocese if Church members could make it a matter of duty to attend, the Synod services on Sunday October 14th. Yours sincerely, CRAIG WAIAPU.
