C.M.S. Annual Report
' The following report of the Waiapu committee of the "New Zealand Church Miissio'nary Spciety is forwarded by the secretary: — The committee has been late having the annual meeting and public meeting to follow owing to having fixed the date for VJ-Day (August 15th). It had been arranged to have the Rev. J. R. Higgs, 8.A., formerly C.M.S. missionary m Africa and Hong Kong, as speaker, with the Bishop of Waiapu presiding. Bishop Bennett, the president, was also to speak. The members' meeting has since taken pace, when Dean Gibson presided. It was arranged to have the public meeting on Oct. 2nd., and the speaker hopes this time to reach Napier, having come part of the way. from the south previously. St. John's fellowship is co-operating, with decorationsrations and a Chinese setting, to give the evening. At the members' meeting Bishop Bennett was elected as president and thanked for his enthusiasm and inspiration. The Dean, who was re-elected vicepresident, and Miss P. E. Davis secretary. Both were re-elected codelegates to the Wellington executive. Last year's committee was again elected with the exception of Mrs fc M. A. Parker (Clive Parish) and Miss Parkerson (St. Johns) who takes the place of Mrs A. Pallot, who had left for England.. A small gift m token of our esteem hda been given
her.. The report for the year showed an increase m membership, yearly subscriptions and donations. literature, magazines, special letters from N.Z.C.M.S. workers, and the English C.M.S. Prayer- Quarterly had been distributed and read at the meetings. Miss Bargrove, our C.M.S. worker, had been moved to this diocese. Mr L. D. Bestall and Miss Parkerson had made valuable contributions to the missionary cause by their illustrated lectures. The secretary attended executive meetings twice m the year._ The Rev. F. C. Long, general secretary of the Board of Missions, was spoken of by several members at our annual meeting for his help and co-operation over the years. A letter to that effect is to be sent to him. Miss Margaret Young (South India) whom we had for our last annual evening, and for whom meetings were arranged m two or three parshes, including the native parish of Moteo, said: "We carry on. because of your prayers." Miss Blanche ' Tobin on arrival from China last year, said, at the executive meeting that the Chinese say: "The victory will be ours." "Yes," she said, "but I told them 'the victory wil be Christ's' We must, help m making that victory."
