Death Of Ani. Eruini Te Tikao

On the 30th of June there passed " away at the Rotorua^ Hospital Ani, the widow of the late Mphi Eruini Te Tikao after an illness lasting about two years. Wlith her husband they had laboured m many parts of this Diocese, including the pastorates of Ohmemutu, Wjhakatane, Te Puke, Tauranga, Tokomaru Bay arid Taupo. In her illness she had been regularly visited by Archdeacon Hodgson and Rev. H. N. Panapa. When the end was near and she was unable to say much, she asked Rev. Panapa to read the 57th Psalm. That was the last request she. made, and soon after it was read to her, she passed beyond the veil. Some of the words of this psalm are very appropriate and shows wonderful confidence m God, even m the hour of death. It is one of our » Easter tide psalms. Here are some of the exclamations:— "Be merciful unto me O God, be merciful unto me, for my soul trusteth m Thee: and under the shadow of Thy wings shall be my refuge. .... My heart is fixed O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. I will give thinks unto Thee O Lord, among the people: and I will sing unto Thee among the nations. Set up Thyself 0 God above the heavens: and Thy glory above all the earth." The funeral service took place on the Monday, JTuly 2nd, the first part being taken m the beautiful Maori Church of St. Faith's at Ohinemutu, where a great deal of - the Maori workmanship was done by the deceased. The service was taken by Rev. H. N. Panapa, Archdeacon Hodgson and ML Tumatahi, the address being delivered by the Bishop of Aotearoa. Three of her favourite hymns were sung by the Maori choir. Her remains were laid to rest at Kauae the ancestral burying place of her tribe and family. They have no children of their own, but an adopted son is at Te Aute College.
