Shield, C.F., principal of the school, states: / "We have suddenly become confronted with a great opportunity of giving to the men, in the forces a full body of Christian teaching and helping them to discover together their responsibility as Christian leaders m society. . "Towards, the end of May the S.C.F, gave me a commission to attend the R.A.F. C. of E. School of Leadership at Rome as , an observer. This I did with six chaplains. Together we formed a group, entering the school as students for 10 days, examining it from every angle and working out plans for similar schools m the British Army and the. Second N:Z.E.F. The result' is that, on re^ ceivmg my report, the G.O;C. approved the setting up of a School of Leadership m the Division. "We are anxious that the Church m New Zealand, should be. fully aware of what we are doing." The school lasts for a period of 10 days, the men residing m buildings made available through the courtesy of the National Patriotic Fund Board. The establishment allows for 60 students, including officers and other ranks; The programme is a full one of 20. lectures. The students; are selected by the commanding officer arid the chaplain of their unit, the guiding principle of selection being potential leadership. The first school was a great success and augured well for the future. On the last day of the course the latest list 'of honours' and awards was published* it being gratifying, to note that one lecturer and three students were included. The 1 lecturers are the Rev.
