GENERAL SYNOD.

A proposal approved by General Synod m November last that meetings should be held every second year as from 1946, instead of every third year as at present, was agreed to by the Auckland Diocesan Synod, but it was also urged that consideration, be given to the possibility of holding annual sessions. Some speakers expressed opposition to any tendency to centralisation m Wellington, which they thought might lead to a loss of the democratic nature of General Synod. Bishop Simkin said General Synod was the only body able to speak for Ihe whole Church m New Zealand, and it should be able to speak more than once every three years. Its functions m the past had been too much of a legislative nature arid not sufficiently initiative. There had been many occasions when it could have spoken with a representative voice had its meetings been annual.
