The distinguished English soldier, Sir William Dobbie, has felt it his 1 ' duty to s protest against the idea that m the programme of entertainment for the troops "something beastly has to be provided." He says that it is an insult to the great majority of them to treat them as if they could not enjoy an evening's recreation and fun unless they heard some indecency, some blasphemy, or some scoff at religion. "There may be a minority," he ..said, "who like that sort of thing, but it is not true m the main of the men of the forces/ m the disciplined and wholesome lives which; they live.
