PARISH NOTES.

OTANE

In the departure of Mr and Mrs Davies and their children, we have lost one of our most faithful church families. They have been consistently regular m attendance at church and some of our most valuable church workers. Mrs Davies and three of her children have been members of the choir, and, Mrs Davies has been a faithful member of the Mothers' Union. The choir said goodbye to Mr and Mrs Davies and their family at a social evening at the vicarage when a presentation was made to Mrs Davies. We wish them success and happiness at Puketapu. Harvest Thanksgivings were held at various centres and a fine lot of vegetables, fruit, etc., was given for distribution to St. Hilda's, Abbotsford and St. Mary's Homes. At Otane the choir of St. Peter's, Waipawa, assisted with the music and an impressive sermon was preached by the Rev. W. T. Drake. After the service, a social was held when the vicar thanked Mr Drake and his choir for their kind assistance. The Mothers' Union opened m February with a garden party. Meetings are now held on the 4th Thursday and addresses have been given by the Rev. N. F. Benham, Mrs Pedersen and Mrs Walker. We much regret the loss of several members' who have left the district. Unfortunately bitter cold weather and prevailent sickness spoilt the attendance at Miss Dinneen's meeting at Omakere, but those who braved the elements heard a very inspiring address on Missionary work m China. We were delighted to have her with us and hope she will pay us a return visit before long so that other centres may have the opportunity of hearing her. WAERENGA-A-HIKA (Rev. R. Hodgson.) Notes from this part of the diocese are long overdue. This parish had its usual stalls at the local Winter Show, this inception of which originated m the minds of a former vestry of this parish. All parts of the parish were represented amongst the large and keen body of lady workers manning the stalls. The parish is under a great debt to these willing ladies and is most grateful for their help. Four

days of it is pretty solid, but we* never had any complaints. And the parish finances benefitted to the extent of a considerable sum; not as. large as m previous years, but none= the less very accepetable m these hard, times Wft arpi r.onfidfint of reaching m full our quota for the missionary work of the Church, and are very elated about it. There is a possibility of even exceeding the amount asked.. A young men's Bible Class has recently been started at the Vicaragewhich meets every Wednesday evening at 7.30, and to date numbers attending have . far exceeded expectations, and we hope by teaching and discussion to do some constructive: work during the winter months.
