WAIPAWA.
Vicar: The Rev. J. Pigott. On July 20th, just too late for the last issue of the Gazette, we had the first official visit of our Bishop. He celebrated at 8 a.m., conducted a Confirmation at 11 a.m. and preached at 7 p.m. m St. Peters, and preached at 3 p.m. at Ongaonga. After the latter service lie and Mrs. "Williams were entertained at afternoon tea by Mrs. White. The services were well attended and the congregations listened reverently and attentively to the Bishop's words. In the morning he spoke on Confirmation, reminding the candidates that the rite was only a beginning. In the evening at Ongaonga on what Confirmation led up to — Holy Communion. A report of the latter will be .found, m another, column of this isisue. On Monday afternoon the Bishop attended a reception given m his honour m the Memorial Lib- . rary at Tikokino. He visited Abbotsford Home for a tea party with the children arranged by the staff. In the evening: a welcome social was held m St. Peter's Sunday School. We were sorry that Mrs. Williams was unable to be present at any of the Monday functions. We are sorry to lose Miss Thomas as a member of, our choir and one of the staff at Abbotsford Home. The staff aa-ranged a little evening amongst themselves on the eve of her departure, when she was made the recipient of several little mementoes. Her Christian life and example will be missed among those with whom she came into contact. We welcome Miss Hills and Miss Boulton, new members of the staff. We regret to record the deaths of Henry James Limipus and Maria Jane Clark. The latter had been a staunch supporter of the Church and a veritable "Good Samaritan." She will be missed greatly, not only at Argyll East where she lived, but throughput the whole of this district.
