PLACARDS

Posters or placards do arrest attention. They seem to hit you whether you like it or not. The Church can use thi s system, and the Rev. W. H. Hunt, of Bilsthorpe Rectory, Newark, Notts, England, prints a new set each year, one for each Sunday and Holyday; about 30 inches by 20, with an ornamental border and some trite, striking sentence, suitable alike to the Church season and the good of passers-by. It i s claimed that these have increased the attendance at Church. A notice board can be constructed either with a moveable back and glass front or large wire net front, or a more simple board and a paste brush may be used. Here are some specimens : — New Year : "The only year that can pass without disappointement is the Christian Year." Ascension: "Christ has not ascended above ..our needs and sorrows." Empire Day: "Loyalty mean s carrying forward m our time what our fathers died to win." Advent: "Eternal truth is the source of hope. Comfort and patience. H.M. King George reads the Bible every day." Once one got well ctarted with a series to fall back on, one might get better ones and print them with rubber loose type blocks. The cost of a series is about fivepence a poster plus postage from England. The press at which they are printed is the Thoroton Press, S. James street, Nottingham, England. The printers names are Messrs Cooke and Vowles. W.E.L.
