Board of Missions Notes.

Children's Competitions. An encouraging number of children entered this year for the competitions m connection with the King's Crusaders. The competitors were grouped according to their ages. The subjects for the different essays were: "The Life and Work of Raymond Lull," Life m a Heathen African Village," "'Archdeacon Apolo of Uganda," and "Emily Lawrence; the first woman missionary sent out by the S.P.G." The older candidates were also asked to do a coloured map of Africa, showing the religions of the various races, and the different Church of England Stations. The prize-winners were: Hilda Park (Wanganui), Moera Cootes (Otaki), Jean Waterston (Cashmere Hills), Keith Gillies (St. Peter's, Wellington), Freda Judkins (Beckenham), William Tukere (Otaki Maori Boys' School), and M. Lindsay (Inglewood). The examiner expressed himself as being very pleased with the standard of work sent m. St. Andrewstide. The suggestion that a continuous day of prayer should be held during St. Andrewstide, was adopted m many parishes. The effect must be very farreaching. The leaflet, which was prepared giving information about the various members of the N.Z. Church m the Mission Field, seems to have been widely used. If only we could learn to put prayer first, we could, like the China Inland Mission, do away with all propaganda, and yet have no financial worries. A Communion Set Wanted. The Bishop m Polynesia has just opened up a new mission station at Laur toka, to which the Rev. A. Stackhouse has been appointed. The local people are doing a lot to establish church, work there. The Bishop appeals for someone m N.Z. to present them with a Communion Set. Will anyone who is prepared to help m this matter communicate with the Bishop's Commissary, Rev. F. B. Redgrave, Wellington. Organising Secretary. Captain W. H. Smith, the new Organising Secretary of the Board, has, since his appointment m August, been visiting parishes m the Wellington, Christchurch, and Waiapu Dioceses with the Board's cinema.

Need of Funds.— The Board's income up to the end of November was more than £1000 less than for the corresponding period last year. This loss is entirely due to the far-reaching effects of the infantile paralysis epidemic, but that does not make the position any easier for the different co-ordinated missions, which are all m need of funds. What makes the position still more serious is that the Budget for the present year requires £950 more . than was required last year.
