Maori Mission.

RESIGNATION OF MISS YOUNG.

Few workers m the Maori Mission have done more faithful work than Miss Young, who for four years taught m the Queen Victoria School m Auckland, and for the last eight years has carried on the responsible work at the Mission House, Whakarewarewa, Rtorua. She has just resigned her position as she is about to be married. She left Rotorua on July sth much to the regret of her many friends among both Maoris and Europeans. Besides her many activi-

ties among 1 the Maoris, she conducted a Sunday school for European children at the Whaka end of Rotorua, who lived too far away to attend the Sunday school m the town, and the parents of |hese children showed their appreciation of her work by giving her a surprise party at the Mission House, and making her a presentation. A social gathering of parishioners of St. Luke's was held m the Parish Hall to bid her farewell, and the Maoris at Whaka also . gathered at the Mission House to show their gratitude for -v^hat she had done for them. Her Bible classes for the children have been most valuable and her interest m the young people, surrounded as they are at Whaka with so many tempetations, has been most helpful . OnJune 29th a Scout rally was held m her "honor m the Parish Hall. About 100 boy and girl Scouts attended and presented Miss Young with a "swastika" badge V>f thanks and recogntion of service. Chief Scoutmaster Hawkins., and and Mrs E. Robertson, president of the Girl Peace Scout Council, highly eulogised her work as Scoutmistress. Opportunity was taken to welcome Miss Seth Smith, who has succeeded Miss Young m the Mission work and,, also m that of the Girl Scouts. On July 3rd, the night before her . departure, the Maoris of Whakarewarewa presented her with a large number of gifts, including some valuable greenstone ornaments. Miss Young's removal from Rotorua will be a great loss to the Mission and the parish, but the Mission is fortunate m securing Miss Seth Smith as her successor.
