Opotiki.

Vicar : Rev. Thomas Fisher,

We anticipated a lively time with the Red Cross Carnival, and we got it ! Everyone will breathe more freely now that it is ended ! . May the result contribute to the well-being and comfort of all ranks of our brave brothers at the front.

Our annual parishioners' meeting has been deferred until August 23rd.

The Girls' Friendly Society took their part m the Day of Intercession and Thanksgiving on June 20th.

Members of our congregation now m France write to the vicar from time to time. In your prayers do not fail them, but ask for them the unfailing Grace of God, that they may hold fast their Chrisitian ' profession, and be granted a safe return to their homes.

Mr Wise hopes to be back m August, having had a good rest-time with his relations m Sussex and Devonshire, but he is quite lame. He, as well as Mr Pearson, desire their kind remembrances to all their Opotiki friends. Mr Penney was m Sling Camp with Mr Wise, recovering from a* breakdown, and was likely to be placed on the staff m camp, for a time, at any rate.

The Rev. Hakaraia Pahewa has made a happy beginning to his ministration to the Maoris around us, all the pas giving him a good reception. Unfortunately he can only come this way once m three months. Before very long may it be found possible to find the right man to help m this very important service.
