Rotorua.

Acting Vicar: Rev. C. E. Nicholas.

A social gathering was held m St. Luke's Parish Hall on the evening of Thursday, June 27th, for the purpose of bidding farewell to the Rev. X E. and Mrs Maclean, prior to their departure from Rotorua for Woodville.

Mr H. E. Gilbert presided, and read several apologies for unavoidable absence. He went on to say that the parishioners greatly regretted Mr Maclean's departure and the cause of it. Mr Maclean had worked with energy, so much so that his health had broken down. The parish was of great extent, and was too much for one minister. He hoped that Mr Maclean would enjoy better health at Woodville, where he and Mrs Maclean were going. He reminded his hearers that Mr Maclean had been- instrumental m bringing the erection of the Soldiers' Club m Rotorua to a successful conclusion. Mr Gilbert then, on behalf of the congregation of St. Luke's, presented Mrs Maclean with a cut-glass fruit dish, and Mr Maclean with a travelling bag.

The Rev. K. E. Maclean thanked the parishioners for the handsome presents, Mrs Maclean and himself were sorry to leave Eotorua and the many friends, they had made, but the doctor's orders must be obeyed. He 4sked the people of St. Luke's to look at their great parish from an unselfiish point of view, and to regard their congregation, by far the largest m the district, as the eldef brother of the little congregations m other parts of it. He thanked all who had work-

ed with him m the parish. He and Mrs Maclean would never forget the pleasant time they had spent m Rotorua.

During the evening songs were sung / and excellent light refreshments were served by the ladies.

Mr and Mrs Maclean left Rotorua on the following Monday morning. A number of friends gathered at the railway station to say farewell.
