I. INTERCESSIONS.
That it may please Thee — To' give grace to rulers and all m authority ; that, being granted wisdom and understanding, they may find Thy way to a sure and lasting peace. We beseech Thee to hear us. (To be said after each petition.) That Thy people may be awakened to a deeper sense of Thy Presence and Power. That out of this war may arise p closer union of the Churches of the East and West. That to our soldiers and sailors may .be granted bravery m battle, patience m suffering, and a spirit of mercy m the hour of victory. For those who have gone forth from New Zealand that Thou "wilt cover their heads m the day of battle," and keep them from every evil. That Thou wilt be with those who suffer — the sick, the wounded, the dyin/g, an,d the mourners an.d wilt
grant them support and comfort. For those who minister to the suffering — to their souls and bodies — that Thou wouldst grant them* endurance and patient watching with skill and gentleness, to the healing of pain and sorrow. For all who are slain m battle — that Thou wouldst receive their souls into Thy peace ' and deal with them according to the -multitude of Thy mercies. ' For widows and orphans, the homeless, the desolate, and ' all who are m need. That patience, trust, and comfort may be granted to those whose relatives and friends have gone forth to the war. That our sailors and soldiers may be strengthened to withstand the temptations which beset them, and be true to their ' Christian calling. ' ' That those who are responsible for the appointment of military chaplains may have wisdom and guidance. That all who hold office as Chaplains m the Army and Navy mayi hq.ve grace to fulfil their ministry faithfully. . _ ' I That national temperance and sobriety may be assisted by wise legislation. ' Let us pray for the Diocese — That the Holy Spirit may be abundantly given to all who labour m it, that m all things they may " seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness." ? That Thou wouldest direct and prosper the work of the Standing Committee of the Diocese.
That to the Bishop may be granted grace and strength for his work, and protection on his journeys. That comfort and strength may be granted to the Vicar of S. Andrew's, Napier, m his illness, — and to his family. That faithful .priests may be found for Te Puike and for Waipiro Bay,
