Vicar: Rev. A. W. 0. Stace. The last week we have had dreadful gales which' axe responsible for a great amount of damage. Despite 1 the boisterous wind which prevailed the whole day, Election Day passed off very orderly and .uneventfdlly. A few days previous to Election. Day, a meeting of ladies was held for the purpose of arranging for a Belgian Fund collection scheme* on Election Day. The idea was voiced at a largely attended meeting of Mr George Hunter's ladies'; committee by the Mayoress, and enthusiastic support was offered the scheme. The collectors worked hard under trying conditions throughout Election Day. Too nr.iuch praise cannot be tendered to) those ladies who kept going so consistently m spite of wind and dust, losing no opportunity of increasing the fund. Thanks are also due to Mrs Houseman, who provided afternoon tea for the workers, and assisted considerably m making the day pleasant as well as profitable. Three donations of £'25, £20, and £25 were received, making a total of £116 for Election Day collection. The annual tea and enter fcaiwitnent m connection with S. Mary's Sunday School was held on December 4th, and it was a great success. Over two hundred children sat down to tea, and with so many willinig helpers there was not the least confusion aad the wants of the young people were well attended to. At 8 o'clock the programme for the evening began. The Rev. Mr Stace called attention to the patriotic feeling shown, by th'e scholars m foregoing their usual prizes and devoting the money" this year to the Belgian Relief Fund. The musical and other items followed and were muchj appre-

plated, A hearty vc^te of thanks was accorded one and all who had contributed to the success of the evening, special mention being made of Mrs Stoddart and Mrs Parkes for preparing- the children for the entertainment. S. Mary's Hall Was (found toio small to seat the large number of people who attended. . At S. Mary's Anglican Church on Wednesday, December 9th, at 2.30 p.m., Miss Mary Harding 1 , youngest daughter of Mrs R. Harding, of Mount Vernon, was married to Mr Johnj Lyons* step-son of Mr Arch: McLean, of Greenhill. The ceremony was perlormted by the Rev. F. W. Martin, assisted by the Rev. A. W. Stace. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr J. W. Harding. Miss Winifred Clark attended her as bridesmaid, and Mr James Lyons officiated as best man. The wedding party were entertained by, Mrs Harding. ' . • . We deeply regret, the death of one of our little Sundaj>- School scholars, little Rona McClure, of this town. The little girl, who was. five years old, had been ailing for some days* but hopes were, entertained for her recovery until Saturday night, when she became much worse, passing away at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday. Much sympathy is lelt for Mr and Mrs McClure m their sudden and sad bereavement.
