The Mothers' Union agreed to furnish the dinirig room m the Home m Napier which is being started m connection with this work, and already much of the required furniture has been promised. • The annual festival of the Mothers' TJmion arid G.F.S. was- held m Niapieaon Nbvember 1 8th. Both of diur Branches were well represented, ; although perhaps not so well as they would have been if the day had been pleasanter, and" after the service m the Cathedral some of those l ' who were present found the climb to Bishopscourt too much to attempt on such a hot and windy day. A lantern lecture was given by- Mr Tanner on Ndvember. 3rd, . in> the Schoolroom, on Evolution, in;^connection with the O-..E.M. S . , which wias followed by an interesting • discussion, when many different ,: views were expressed. At the following meeting of our 0.E.M.5., Mr R. Gardiner read a paper on Buddhism, illustrating and explaining : his re^ rrJarks by the us© of a diagram. This concluded the year's progtaimme. which has consisted of a number of interesting papers on the different religions and a Bible. Study class. The S. Oswald's Guild has met as usual, and this month took the form of a debate an " Sport." The G.F.S. has met on alternate Tuesdays to complete the filling 1 ! of a box with clothes for a slum parish m Liondon. Th'e Shipping Company has kindly consented to take it' free of charge. Mrs Crompton Smith also at one of the meetings 1 gave a most interesting and helpful address oni "Aesthetics," one of the most, important! subjects at the present time. On November 25' th a Missionary sale of work was held at Mqlland. The work has been done by the Missionary Sewing Giuild and the Children's Missionary Band. proceeds are to be given to the Titelanesian Mission which is m such neetik of funds at the present time.
.During Advent, services will be hold on Wednesday : and Saturday evenings , at 5 p.m . , at . S . Luke's and S. Mark's, Olive, cm Thursday evening .at 7.30. . . . '."... i The earthquake was somewhat disturbing to the services on the 'evenr ing of the 22nd, and the congregation are to be congratulated on their coolness. The choir at Olive are at present practising the cantata, "rN'azareth," to sing at Christnras. There is still room ; f 9 r more voices m the choir, and. men are specially wanted. The Sunday School examinations were held on November 22nd and 29th. This is the first time the dive Sunday School has entered for the Ddocesan Examinations. IThere is still need of more Sunday School teachers and a Superintendent. We have received the new Communion linen which has been given, and have also received 10/- towards a new office book for the Altar. It is hoped that as many as can will attend the Intercessory Services during Advent, on Thursday evenings. It is a time when our prayers are wanted.
