S. Augustine's, Napier.

Vicar: Rev. Canon Tuke. The annual meeting of. parishioners was held on Wednesday, the 22nd of July. Some fifty parishioners attended and listened to the Vicar's report which was fully reported by the *' Herald " and the " Tribune," as well as being, put into the Church seats the previous Sunday. The following were elected to serve on the Vestry :— Messrs R. Thorp aind'S. E. Wright (W&rd'ena), H. White, H. Hare, G. Griffin, W. Lydford, T, Faulkmor, F. Stock, S; Erskine, J. Hill, and E. J. Jenkins. The Bishop after haying walked with the Vicar through the length of Napier South during the afternoon put before the meeting the advisability of procuring some small section on which to erect a building for Sunday School purposes on the eastern side of this fast growing locality. He inspected the Church section now leased to the

Tennis Clubj and saw what a valuable piece of land it was. The wjhole suburb astonished his Lordship who, before his visit had no idea of its wonderful and rapid growth. It was decided to go into the whole matter of means and ways at the next Y'estry meeting, to. request the co-opera-tion of the 'C.8.M.5.,' aiid put the result of their deliberations before a parishioners' meeting m the hear future. The Vicar expressed his deep thankfulness to all Church workers , and the hope that all would be faithful m their service for God and His Church this current year. At nine o'clock a much appreciated • cup of coffee, prepared by Mrs Waterworth, assisted by other women workers, was handed to those present who, much, enjoyed this thoughtfulness oil a cold night. Among the many votes of thanks at the parish meeting was that given to Miss H. Robinson for taking the choir boys each week Her efforts had been of much value tq the boys who can now sing the Church service creditably. . The C.E.M.S. had a good night m impromptu speeches at its last meeting. The annual conference was attended by sevwal of our members on a bitterly cold evening. The Bishop spoke most earnestly on various matters affecting the C.8.M.5., and looked for an increased interest m all the branches. The General Secretary the Rev. J. D. Russtell, will address the members of the three town branches this week. We hope to chronicle a decidedly helpful meeting. The 'council of the CJ.E.M.S. is also to meet this week m S. Augustine's Schoolroom. The Bishop has kindly consented to give a talk on "Life m the Navy and South' African Experiences "on the 19th or possibly the 20th. We ask jail parishioners to note this and attend m crowds. The next Bulb and Spring Flower Show will be held on the 9th and loth of September. Parishioners are urged to attend and help it m every way. Children's, classes will also be arranged for, and parents ■ will, we hope, encourage their entries. The Conlirmaition Classes will start (J>.,V.) at the end of this month. The Vicar particularly requests 1 parents to encourage their boys and girls to present themselves. Classes for adults will be formed if any will offer. . The Mpthers' Union had a good meeting last month and will have another this week. The Gr.F.S. has had a good attendance at its meetings and several new members have attended. The hostel is the aim and object the Society is pressing. From the splendid windfall of £300 and the receipts of the Jumble Sale promoted by the Presi-

dent; Miss E. Williams, and held m S . John's Schoolroom this week, there is good Encouragement to press on till' it is an accomplished fact. The Committee of the Women's Social Work will mteet this week to report on their efforts m getting annual subscribers . Every parish is apparently anxious to help this good work of rescue and training others for social work, etc. BAPTISMS. " Suffer little Children to come unto Me, and forbid them not."
