S. John's Cathedral, Napier.

Vicar: Sev. Canon F. Mayne, M,A. S. John's Sunday school held its annual picnic in splendid weather at the racecourse, Ureentneadows, on Sat., Dec. 14.tn, under the direction of Miss Kate Williams and Messrs. J. H. Sheath and W. J. Pallot, assisted by a willing band of helper3. A most enjoyable day Was spent by the children. The school will c!ose on Sunday, Dec 22nd, and re-open the first Sunday in January. The annual prize-giving at the Bluff Hill Sunday school took place on Sunday, Dec. 15th, the prizes being distributed by Mrs. McJLernon. The following received books presented by Mrs. McLernpn, the Misses Adkin, Mrs. Crawshaw, and the Vicar : — Girls — 1 (equal), Hilda SweetaDple, Koysie, Brabant, Mary Lane ; 2, Elsa Loudoun. Boys —1, Tai Tuck ; 2, Lawrence Williams, ; '6, Neville Harston ; 4, J ohn> Lane ; special prize, liidmund Stewart. The school will re-open on Feb. liSth. A picnic will be held on the following Saturday if possible. Miss Thornton's Sunday school, Napier Terrace.— The grateful thanks of the Parish are due to Miss Thornton for having carried on the above school for twenty years. It may be impossible to continue the teaching in the same building in future ; if so, the parents of scholars will be asked to send their children to 8. John's. At the last meeting of the school the children presented Miss Thornton with a token of their affection for her loving work amonerst them. . We wish Miss Thornton in her new home at K-han-dallah many years of happiness. Parishioners are informed that the Bishon will be in residence the first two Sundays in January, taking: the whole of the services on those days.
