Abstract of Eighteenth Annual Report. The number of members on the roll is 110. During the year there have been twelve ordinary and two special meetings of the Institute. The revenue for the year, including a balance from last account and various subsidies, has been £318 13s. 2d., and the expenditure, chiefly on additions to the Library and Reading-room, was £251 7s. 8d. The Committee had received a letter from the Otago Institute recommending the severance of the affiliated Societies from the New Zealand Institute. The Committee replied that they were perfectly satisfied with the present arrangements, but that, if it could be shown that the interests of science would be furthered by such a change as that proposed, they would at a future meeting be willing to consider the matter.
