Westland Institute. Annual General Meeting. 10th December, 1879. Dr. Giles in the chair. Abstract of Annual Report. The Committee report a large decrease in the number of members, the number for 1878 having been 167, while for 1879 it was only 115. During the year twelve ordinary and two special meetings were held. The Society received from the Board of Education £96 7s., being a part of the £5000 voted by Parliament for subsidies to public libraries. A sum of £18 has been expended on books, and the Library will contain, when they arrive from London, about 2170 volumes. A list of donations to the Museum and Library is appended. The accounts show that the total receipts amounted to £125 10s., the whole of which was spent on the Library and Museum, and that the balance to the credit of the Society was £21 16s.
