U2 TRIP-HOP LATE

The release dates have been announced for the new U2 single ‘Discotheque’ in January and an album February. There has been much speculation, after the album was dropped from the 1996 release schedule. U2 have reportedly recorded 38 songs for an album that has a “trip-hop sound.” An insider told The Guardian, “The band are nervous about the trip-hop sound on the album and there’s a lot of twiddling going on with the tracks.” A massive world tour is planned following the release of the album. After the elaborate Zooropa tour barely broke even, the band are expected to seek a compatible sponsor with a spare SIOO million. Manager Paul McGuiness told The Guardian, “People know my feelings about bands using inappropriate sponsorship ... that demeans the artist and is without any sense of dignity. We are currently being approached by a number of information technology companies and considering our options. In the past we’ve never had any problems with instrument manufacturers like Yamaha, our problem is with branded consumer goods.” The album’s working title is Expect Nothing But the Best.
