Cont ... ( Deee-lite — Bring Me Your Love 1 ' ] I , ' (US Elektra 12”) J f Loleatta Holloway — The Queen’s Anthem ] I (UK Six 6 12”) J . The Johnny Vicious corner. On the new Deee Lite single Johnny recycles his trademark house to hip hop breakdown but the odd thing is that it exists on the album version already, which I suppose must be flattering. You also get a couple of mixes from San Francisco’s Digit & Efx in their typ- ; ically percussive style, plus a little jazz cut up bonus track which is too Doop for its own good. Loleatta’s record reprises his last one with her, which was a truly intense piece of cut and paste genius. This one is camper than the first but just as essential. | Morel’s Grooves Vol. 6 | k (US Strictly Rhythm 12”) J . ( Various — Strictly Rhythm, the Third Album | , I (Strictly Rhythm LP/CD) . J [ Ce Ce Rogers —No Love Lost j X. (US Groove On 12”) J Recent new stuff on America’s #1 indie (Groove On is a subsidiary). The A side of Morel’s single ‘Unneccessary Changes’ features the wonderful Taufari on vocals and is a classic New York garage anthem with a hard phased dub mix. Great song, great record. Same with Ce Ce’s, especially Morel’s mixes (his classic ‘Someday’ has just been re-issued on the Classic House Mastercuts CD, a brilliant collection if you want to check out the roots of vocal house music). The album is a collection of 11 recent singles, all in 12” mixes. Check out Arnold Jarvis’s beautifully slinky ‘Rain’, or Eric Morillo’s astounding Louie Vega dub of ‘Dancing’. Extreme value for money. Qrhe S-Man — Time To Stop (uk Hard Times 12") The first single from the label of the club night that’s currently the biggest thing in the UK and getting Roger Sanchez to launch it must be the coup of the year. ‘Time to Stop’ is a massive deep Latino thing, a bit like the Secret Weapons project, that uses bits of ‘Walking on Sunshine’ and a chant that sounds for all the world like a Maori call. The Daou — Are You Satisfied (UK Tribal Double Came out a little while back now, but worth mentioning for David Morale’s amazing D’Jazz Dub, plus the bonus to two previously unavailable mixes of Peter Daou and Danny Tenaglia’s epic ‘Surrender Yourself’ from a couple of years back. Vivian Lee — Music is So Wonderful \ I (UK Slip n'Slide 12”) J If you discovered the Fire Island mix of Ultra Nate’s ‘Hold On’ then this is for you with a similar bouncy dubby feel, a sexual keyboard stab and a big big song. Absolutely brilliant stuff. ( Kenny Dope — Total Kaos (us strictly Rhythm 12”) ) ( Todd, Little Louie & Kenny Dope j '■ (US Strictly Rhythm Ip/cd) J ( Face 2— Love You Too (us vibe 12”) j ( Tee Dawg-Dazzy Dawg (us Freeze 12 ) ] From the Masters and their best mate, ‘Total Kaos’ is a four track hard house EP, the standout being ‘Something Old School’ where Kenny does his best Todd Terry impression but ends up sounding totally Kenny. The album is a collection of some of the best of the trio’s Strictly sides, both old and new, including some of the hardest to get tracks like Todd’s ‘Can You Feel It Dub’ and Hardrive’s ‘Just Believe’ remix. ‘Love You Too’ is Kenny’s remix and the killer track on the Chicago Face 2 EP, heavy disco sample-house from Johnny D. In the same style, Todd Terry cuts up Brick’s ‘Dazz’ in a sort of post Grandmaster Flash Style. Mad Lion — Take It Easy (us weeded 12") That man, KRS 1, on a definite roll after the brilliant ‘Boom Bap’, takes the rather ordinary Mad Lion and makes a rather extra-ordinary record in a slippery hip-hop ragga style, complete with choir. T-Soloman — Eclectic EP (us shelter Four tracks of deep funkiness for fans of Larry Heard or Kerry Chandler, all with a slightly different edge, from the moody organ driven ‘Shelter Groove’ to the stomping ‘Party Groove’. Highly recommended.
