Nirvana are issuing als track compilation Incesticide, a collection of rarities including SubPop b-sides, UK Peel Sessions, demos and tracks from various artist compilations. Steve Albini has denied that he is producing the third Nirvana album. Steve’s next job is PJ Harvey’s second album. There’s talk of Nirvana recording their next album on 8track gear ... CLASSIC KIWI REISSUES Jayrem Records have reissued two compilations of classic NZ music plus complete albums by the Breakaways and Thom Thumb. The collections are Get The Picture 1964-72 (27 tracks) and Out From The Cold 1964-72 (24 tracks). Artists featured include Quincy Conserve, Bari & the Breakways (includes Midge Marsden), Top Shelf, Simple Image, Tommy Adderley, Pleasers, Roadrunners, Contacts, Dizzy Limits, Relics, Lost Souls, Supernatural Blues band and many more. ' The Breakaways CD contains both of their albums, 28 tracks total. The New Plymouth band featured Midge Marsden and Mandrill Studios co-founder, Dave Hurley. The Tom Thumb compilation is Ludgate Hill :TheSingles: A &B Sides. Jim Moss is now living and basing his Jayrein label in Ohope. The postal address is PO Box 3101, Ohope, Whakatane. . MOUNTAIN ROCKS The Central North Island one-day rock festival Mountain Rock, takes place again this January 16th, at Airle Braes sheep station, near Ballance, approach from the Manawatu Gorge. Artists appearing this year include Push Push, Muttonbirds, Shona Laing, Backdoor Blues Band, Jan Hellriegal, Dead Flowers, Shihad, Nine Livez, Southside of Bombay and Big Deal. Tickets are S2O for pre-sales (at Brashs stores and Kingsley Smith Wellington) and $25 at the gate.

FRENTE! Forget the Wham! exclamation mark. Frente! are really Australia’s answer to Altered Images. Lead singer Angie trills her way through the band’s candy coloured videos in a voice so girly she makes Claire Grogan sound like a bag lady. The rest of the band cavort in the background playing air-instruments in suits to match the props in ‘Accidentally Kelly Street’. After releasing a five track EP which held the number one spot on the Aria Independent Charts for three months, Frente! recorded their debut album, produced by none other than Michael Koppelman, Paisley Park’s resident engineer and the man responsible for Prince’s Diamonds and Pearls. As if that’s not enough, Frente! are planning to take their nursery school pop to England next year following interest from Go-Disc records. Perhaps Angie will topple Kylie from her perch as Britain’s Best Loved Pop Hampster. "We all love Kylie," pipes the band’s guitarist, “sometimes she’s painfully honest. Even the really cool people love her here." ‘Nuff said.
