NOTES. WANGANUI.

Mr. Leopold J. Atkinson, architect, of Wanganui, advises us of the following works: — Brick residence of six rooms and offices for Mr. F. Halse, at Hastings. Price, £600.

Alterations to Newmarket Hotel, Wanganui — ground floor offices, bar, etc. Receipt of tenders for an artistic eightroomed house for Mr. J. Brownlee, of Westmere. A feature of this typical bungalow is the fine verandah, eigfyt feet six wide, and another is the living room, which is L shaped, and measures 30 by 22 over all. The other rooms are correspondingly large. A residence for Dr. Alex Wilson. This is a house consisting of 21 rooms, and furnished with all possible conveniences. There is a separate entrance for patients and tradesmen, as well as two private entrances, thus keeping the residential portion quite apart from the business part of the establishment. The chamber flat is excellently planned, the doctor having his own private dressing room and bath room. Ample room is also provided for the servants. The exterior throughout is roughcast, being well set off by a roof of Marseilles tiles. The windows, being plain lead light, are a pleasing feature, and the chimneys will be most attractive, although plain, having relieving courses of rough clinker bricks. The house will be completed in April. The builder is Mr W. Knuckey, and the contract price is. £1700. The architect, Mr. Atkinson, deserves much rredil for his design, which will prove one of the most aptly arranged and up-to-date doctor^' residences in the Dominion.
