The silver lever hunting watch and steel guard reported as stolen from the dwelling of Doctor J. B. Lake, at Cromwell, have been recovered.

The suspect Edward Sutton, Vide Police Gazette 1871, page 51, sold at Port Chalmers, on the sth inst., a watch of the following description, which it is supposed he stole :—a medium-sized silver English verge hunting watch, white dial, black hour, minute, and second bauds, maker Josh Dudley, Portsmouth, No. 21968, like P Sho indistinctly scratched on back, brass albert chain attached, round link pattern, alternate links covered with jet beads; on the end of the chain there is a 3d and 4d piece which serve as links, next to which is attached an English gold locket containing a small lock of brown hair.

James Johnston alias E. Horst, the offender described as having stolen from Francis ICrull’s Hotel, George-street, Dunedin, a Chinese soap stone castle or joss-house ornament, has been arrested by Sergeant Golder, Dunedin Police Force, and sentenced to two months’ labor.

Thomas P. Henley, who reported that on the 7th ult. a diamond ring was stolon from off his finger while stupified with opium at the Chinese store, Dee-street,

Invercargill, is now supposed to have had no such article in his possession at the time.

The pair of dark grey Tweed trousers reported as stolen from the yard of Mary Barry, Stafford-street, Dunedin, has been found in possession of Elce Horst, the suspect “ Jim,” who has been arrested by Sergeant Golder, Dunedin Police Force, and sentenced to two months’ labor.

The horse reported as stolen about the 28th ultimo from the Eorbury Park, near Dunedin, the property of Marshall and Copeland, has been recovered.

The two £2O notes on the Bank of New Zealand, Nos. 004656 and 004513, reported as stolen from the person of Edwin Belcher, at Dunedin, by Jane Glass, have been recovered and traced to the possession of the offender.

(Vide Police Gazette , 1874, page 18.) The sheep reported as stolen from the stockyard of Messrs. Keenan and Morgan, at Drybread, have been recovered.

Between 8 p.m. on the 28th and 8 a.m. on the 29th instant, in Queen-street, Dunedin, 5 shovel handles, and 3 pick handles were broken, and the linch pins removed from three drays, tho property of John M‘Kenzie, value £2.

And 135 for drunkenness, and 9 for lunacy.
