Constable Steele Hector McLean, No. 567. Rewards. The sum of £5 has been awarded from the Police Reward Fund to Sergeant Patrick F. Fleming, in acknowledgment of zeal and ability shown in the arrest of William Hoare, alias James Ross, alias William James Brown, alias William Harris Orr, sentenced to four years’ labour for stealing from a dwelling. Ah Cat, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying a fine of L 5 and costs for mining without a miner’s right has been arrested by Sergeant Cassells, Cromwell Police, James Yardley, alias Powder-faced Jim, charged with assault and robbery at Nokomai on the 30th ultimo, has been arrested by Constable Purdue, Mataura Police, and committed for trial. Tide Police Gazette, 30 th November, 1872. Timothy Sullivan, charged with assaulting Jean Baptist at Moeraki Port, has been arrested by Constable Carroll, Hampden Police. Vide Victoria Police Gazette, 17 th December, 1872, page 322. Evelyn Charles Warren, charged on warrant issued at Sydney, N. S. W., with stealing two cheques for £730 and £320, the property of the Sydney City Bank, has been arrested by First-Class Detective James Farrell, Dunedin police, and the greater portion of the stolen property recovered. David Horne, who deserted from the ship Helen Burns, and Vernon Jenkins, who deserted from the ship Peter Denny, at Port Chalmers, on the 11th and 14th instants have been arrested by Sergeant O’Keeffe, Waikouaiti police.
