Inquests.

An inquest was held on the 30th of October last, at the Palmerston Hotel, Palmerston, by J. W. Murdoch, Esquire, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of Charles M'Taggart, a baker, aged 36 years, who committed suicide by cutting his throat with a pocketknife at Palmerston on the day previous. Verdict— That deceased committed suicide by cutting his throat whilst labouring under temporary, insanity.

An inquest was held on the 28th ultimo, at the Welcome Hotel, Naseby, by H. W. Bobinson, Esq., ,B.M. and Coroner, on the body of Elizabeth Jane Tait, aged two and a-half years, who died at Naseby ■on the.,day previous from the effects of a quantity of /caustic .'potash which she drank on the 25th of that month, from a bottle which she found in the house of •Joseph Creighton, farmer, Naseby. Verdict—-Acci-dentally. poisoned by drinking caustic potash.

An inquest was held on the 28th ultimo, at the Eagle Hotel, Camp bell town}' by Francis A. Muckton, Esquire, Coroner, on the bodies of Ann Davis, aged years and Joseph Davis, aged 2| years, who were

drowned in the Mataura river on the 24th of that month. Verdict Accidentally drowned.

Verdict—Accidental death.

An inquest was held on the 6th instant at the Lunatic Asylum, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esq., Coroner, on the body of Bobert Sutton, a painter, aged 37 years, who died there on the 4th instant. Verdict—Died from softening of the brain.

An inquest was held on the 13th instant, at the residence of George Sutherland, Goodwood, by J. W. Murdoch, Esquire, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of William Sutherland, aged 4J months, who died suddenly there on the day previous. Verdict— Died from natural causes.

An inquest was held on the 12th instant, at the Boyal George Hotel, Lawrence, by Vincent Pyke, Esq,, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of William Casey, a miner, aged 72 years, who was found dead in a water race at the Blue Spur, near Lawrence, on the 10th instant. Verdict — drowned. \ ‘ . •

Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of John; Williams, a Minister of the Gospel, aged 56 years, who died at his residence on the 22nd instant, from the effects of injuries sustained by the capsizing of one of Chaplin and Company’s coaches at Look-out Point, near Dunedin, on the 20th instant, by which he was a passenger. Verdict—That deceased accidentally received injuries by the capsizing of a coach, from the effects of which he died.

An inquest was held on the 26th instant, at the residence of Mrs Carrick, Port Molyneux, by J. G. Smith, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Eobert Carrick, a settler, aged 38 years, who was killed at Port Molyneux on the 24th instant, by the capsizing of a horse and dray which he was driving. Verdict —Accidentally killed.

An inquest was held on the 28th instant, at the Hospital, Dunedin, by T. M. Hocken, Esquire, Coroner, on the body of Eveline Hilton, aged H weeks, the illegitimate child of Alice Grant Hilton, who died suddenly at Dunedin on the 25th instant. Verdict Died from convulsions.
