Escaped from the penal stockade at Collingwood, on the afternoon of the 14th August, John Heale, alias John Hill, alias George Williams, a native of Stranraer. Scotland, a groom, aged 45, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark complexion’ dark brown hair, grey eyes, indistinct blue mark inside right forearm, heart and star inside left ditto, and fingers injured. . Under the name of John Hill he was sent from Sydney to Norfolk Island under 7 years sentence for striking the chief officer. On the 12th May, 1859, under the name of George Williams, he received sentences of 18 months and 12 months for burglary. On the 23rd April, 1861, at Kiimore, he was sentenced, under the name of George Williams, to 5 years hard labor for stealing jewellery. There is also a waarrnt now at the Detective office charging him with escaping from a life sentence received in Tasmania.

Escaped from Cooma Gaol, on the 14th instant, James . Smith alias William Dean, arrested on suspicion of the murder of Selby and Bennett ; aged 40, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout and powerful build, broad shoulders, dark complexion, long dark hair worn on shoulders, and sandy beard and moustache of about 2 months growth; wore black coat, pepper-and salt coloured colonial tweed trousers, Crimean shirt, Wellington boots with small round heel, and black handkerchief on head. He is supposed to be making for Gipps Land
