MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.

Police Department, Commissioner’s Office, Dunedin, 28th March, 1864.

Return of Appointments, &c., since the PUBLICATION OF THE LAST LIST : APPOINTMENT as CONSTABLE. Cameron, Peter (435)

In all cases where the Police have to obtain evidence as to the correspondence between footmarks and the shoes of suspected persons , they must be careful not to place the shoe of the suspected person on, or in the ground footmark for the purpose of measuring the two. The proper way of proving that a certain footmark was made by a certain shoe, is to make a fresh mark with the shoe alongside the footmark, and then to compare the two together by minute observation and careful measurement.

St. John Branigan, Commissioner of Police.
