EXTRACTS FROM NEW SOUTH WALES POLICE GAZETTE.

From Police Gazette, 16th September, 1863.. Escaped Prisoner. —Escaped on the 11th instant, from the Penal Establishment, Cockatoo Island, Frederick Brittain and Frederick Ward —the former convicted of mail robbery, the latter of cattle stealing. Brittain is a native of Hobart Town, a laborer, 25 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fair ruddy complexion, light brown hair and hazel eyes. . Ward is a native- of- Windsor, . New South Wales, a laborer, 27 years of age, 5 feet 8| inches high, pale sallow complexion, light brown curly hair, hazel grey eyes, mole on wrist, and two warts on back of middle finger on left hand.

Whereas the above-named persons are charged with the commission of numerous • and serious offences, and have hitherto eluded the efforts to apprehend them : It is hereby notified that the Government will . pay a. reward of One thousand pounds for such information as- will lead to the apprehension of each of the offenders named.

The Government will also pay a reward of one hundred pounds for such information as will lead to the conviction of any person or persons for harboring, assisting, or maintaining any of the above-named offenders.. All such information communicated by any person charged with the commission , of an offence, will entitle his case to favorable conconsideration by - the Crown, and will in all cases-be regarded by the police authorities as strictly confidential; and in the event of payment of any of the rewards above offered, the name of the recipient will not be disclosed. The above rewards are offered in lieu of all others previously payable by Government for the apprehension or conviction of the offenders above-named.
