Reefton Notes
i (From our own Correspondent.) September 28. His Grace Archbishop O’Shea made an episcopal visitation oi' this parish last week and administered the Sacrament of Confirmation at Murchison and Inangahna Junction on his way through to Reef ton ; at Waiuta and Ikamatua on the following Saturday, and at Cronadun and Reefton on Sunday afternoon and. Sunday evening. In all 126 candidates were confirmed, and his Grace expressed his great pleasure at the satisfactory manner in which the spiritual wants of. the parish were being attended to. He was unfortunate in having bad weather during his stay here, as on the Sunday there was a heavy fall of snow, the worst experienced for some years. On Thursday evening the archconfraternity of the Sacred Heart had a. very successful euchre party and social evening. The prizes were won by Mrs. G. Lockington, Miss M. Kearns, Mr. G. Lockington, and Mr. H. Stevens. During the evening the Rev. Father Ginisty announced that the winner of the lucky number (Christmas cake) was Miss Estelle Stallard. This was disposed of by the archconfraternity to raise funds for a. library, and I understand somewhere in the vicinity of £2O has been netted. Hie death occurred at Crushington on Sunday, the 27th inst., of Mr. Thos. ' John Mulligan, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mulligan, after an illness extending over several years. The deceased was only 28 years of age, his illness being contracted during the war, in which he served for some time. Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul was celebrated at the Church of the Sacred Heart on Tuesday morning by Rev. Father Herring.— R.I.P.
