Quinlan, who has been promoted to the position of postmaster at Otoi‘-'. , ■ ' ' , , T . -n'.i ' r, rohanga, was presented by Rev. Father Bleakley, on behalf of the parishioners, with i fa, -travelling rug. In making the presentaj|; tion Father Bleakley referred to the great •I work done in the parish by Mr. Quinlan, > t ; particularly in his position as secretary of the school committee, with which ' body he V: had been associated practically since its inr ception. Mr. Quinlan was. also the recipient of a beautiful wallet from members of the St. Vincent do Paul Society, of which organisation he has been president for four ;; years.' A further presentation to Mr. Quinlan was from his associates in the chief post office. iff A successful jumble sale was held on Friday and Saturday afternoons by the parishioners -of Frankton Junction, in aid of the new Catholic school, which, incidentally, has an ever growing roll of about 130. The effort, which was organised by the Sisters of the : Missions who have control, of the institution, ■ : assisted by .an energetic committee was, despite the inclement weather, well attended, c A children’s concert, held on the Saturday evening, ' was ah enjoyable and successful feature of the effort. The nett, proceeds amounted to £43. Judging by the large attendance at the : first social, evening held by the Hamilton ,j; Catholic Girls’ Club the prospects of the new y- organisation are particularly bright. About d 60 members attended, and proceedings went gaily from start to finish. In officially opening the club Father Bleakley congratulated the girls upon the formation, of the organisation, which he was confident would play a /• big part in the working of the parish. Musin cal items were rendered by blisses R. Cussen and M. Dowd, while competitions held in which Misses M. Runner and R. McCarthy .secured the prizes were entered into •with great zest. The Oathplics of Ngaruawahia held an ; enjoyable and successful “basket” social last week in aid of the local church funds. There * was a layge attendance, and from a revenue point of view the results were highly satis- / factory. ■
