There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Joseph's Cathedral from the eleven o'clock Mass on Sunday. His Lordship the Bishop officiated at Compline, and, after the devotions in connection with the usual monthly meeting of the men's confra- / ternity of the Sacred Heart, delivered an instructive discourse on "The Church as founded by Our Divine Lord." The customary procession of the Blessed Sacrament was then held, followed by Pontifical Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament given by the Bishop. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY, DUNEDIN. • The annual meeting of the various conferences of the St. Vincent do Paul, Dun-e-din, was held at the Sacred Heart Schoolroom. North-east Valley, on- the Ist inst., the president of the Particular Council presiding. His Lordship Bishop Why and Rev. Father Delany were present, and there was an attendance of forty members. "At the \ conclusion of the X business of the meeting under notice,' the Rev. /Father Tylee gave ■]'['

an interesting lecture on the organisation of the works of charity in the Papal States in former days. (A report of Father Tylee’s ■ - . . ... f lecture, together with the annual report and balance sheet will he given in our next issue.) His Lordship the Bishop, addressing the meeting at the conclusion of the lecture, said he trusted that the next meeting that at South Dunedin —would be the means of bringing home to the people the importance of the society’s work. HOLY CROSS COLLEGE, MOSGIEL. On Saturday, June 6, his Lordship Bishop Whyte officiated at an ordination ceremony in the chapel of Holy Cross College, Mosgiel. The following students were raised to the Diaconate: —Rev. John McGettigan (Dun- • edin), Rev. James McGuire (Christchurch), Rev. Arthur Gregory (Christchurch), Rev. Peter Breen (Wellington), Rev. Noel O’Sullivan The following students received Minor Orders: —John Rohan, Vincent McGlone, Gordon O’Meoghan, John Kilgour, John S. O’Brien, James Henley, James Gavin, Michael Uhlenberg, Clement Evans, Raymond Marlow, John F. McKay, John A. McKay. SODALITY OF THE CHILDREN OF MARY, SOUTH DUNEDIN. On Pentecost Sunday, the 31st of May, the annual procession of the Children of Mary was held in the convent grounds; South Dunedin. Cloudless weather prevailed, specially suitable .for this beautiful out-of-door devotion. At the head of the procession walked the Children of Mary in regalia, bearing a tastefully decorated statue of the Madonna. Then followed the members of the Eucharistic League, the school children, the children of St. Vincent’s Orphanage, and members of the congregation. As the procession made its way through the grounds the Rosary was recited and hymns were sung. At the northern portion of the convent an altar had been erected,' decorated with feathery greens and pale pink blossoms. Here the procession halted, -while Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament was given by his Lordship Dr. Whyte, assisted by Rev. Father Delany, spiritual director of the sodality. His Lordship, at the conclusion, congratulated all who had taken part in the procession and assisted at Benediction, thus fulfilling the motto, displayed at Lourdes, “Through Mary to Jesus.” Oamaru (From our own correspondent.) June 4. The Catholic Women’s Club, although a little tardy in starting its winter session, has commenced activities. again. On June 1, the Club joined forces with the Men’s Club in f promoting a euchre social and dance. The A event : was most successful from ; all points of viCw r . In fact the crowd rather taxed the accommodation of St. Patrick’s Hall. The Men’s Club held its usual evening on May 21, when Mr. P. J. Duggan (an exCoaster) discoursed interestingly on the history of the West Coast (and the men and movements, that .made that history) to an ■ . >• •,. - 1 ■ ■ '' , attentive audience. The younger and more

pugnacious . members are to have their; wishes gratified. It has been decided that a boxing class be attached to the Club. With all tastes catered for now by the Club, there is no reason why our Catholic young men should not find the club rooms a pleasant place in which to spend their evenings. . An innovation is to be- tried during the month of June. Instead of Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament being held as hitherto in the evening of' Friday, it has been decided to hold it in the afternoon shortly after 3 o’clock, in order to give the school children an opportunity of attending. This will also afford country people in town on that day a chance of being present.
