(From our own Correspondent.) February 12. The ordinary meeting of the Hibernian Society was held on Monday evening, the 9th inst., the Rev. Father Moran and about twenty members being present, Bro. H. J. O’Leary, the new president, was in the chair and a considerable amount of business was transacted. The local branch has made great strides during the past twelve months; and the enthusiasm c f the members augurs well for the continued success and advancement during the prc.Aiit year. One new member was initiated. Very sincere regret was felt throughout the parish at the unexpected death of Rev. Alother Teresa who has been stationed in Masterton for about three years. Of a kindly and happy nature she Avon the hearts of all with whom she was associated; and the sympathy of the parishioners will be extended to the community of St. Bride’s in

their great loss. A large number attended ■the Requiem Mass celebrated by the Rev. Father Alorap for the repose of the soul of deceased; and the funeral cortege was a lengthy one. The pall-bearers were representative of the old boys of St. Patrick’s School. We extract from the Dominion (AA 7ellington) the following references to the deceased religious: —The Rev. Alother Theresa, who had entered her 56th year, was born at A r oughal, Co. Cork, Ireland. She took her vows 31 years ago and arrived in Australia in 1894. She had been Superior of a Brisbane convent, and of convents in New South A ales, one being the Brigidine Convent at Raudwick, Sydney. Deceased was one of the first six nuns to come to Masterton, being escorted over from Australia by the Right Rev. Monsignor AlcKenna 26 years ago, and entering St. Bride’s Convent on its foundation. She was in Alasterton for seven years and then, in, 1904, she was recalled to Australia, returning to Alasterton three years ago. Of a most kindly nature, the Rev. Alother Theresa was universally loved, and her loss will lie greatly felt by the Catholic community of Alasterton.—R.l.P.
