ASHBURTON NOTE

(.brum our own correspondent.) October 24. A mission is to commence in Ashburton on November 15 and conclude on the 30th. It will be conducted by the Eedemptorist Fathers, and the missioners will be Rev. Father Campbell, C.SS.R., and Rev. Father McLaughlin, CSS.R. A children's mission will commence on the 11th and terminate on the 15th. Tho meetings of the Catholic Club advanced another stage on Wednesday evening, the 15th inst., when the programme, a mock trial, was carried out. The judge was the Very Rev. Dean J. J. O'Donnell, and those participating in various capacities included Messrs. W. Bryant, T. W. Purcell, T. Gorman, F. McCormick, F. Lennon, Val Cull en, H. Lennon, E. Brophy, S. Madden, and T. Gordon. The club will conclude the season with an "at home" to take place in the club rooms on Wednesday, November 5. Our local choir, which has existed for the last few years with a very limited membership, has been re-organised. An invitation from our esteemed pastor brought forth some 30 new members, and at a meeting held on Sunday evening last, over which Very Rev. Dean O'Donnell presided, Rev. Father Brown was appointed to take charge of the choir and Mr. Val Cullen was appointed leader. The local Celtic Football Club will conclude its season on Thursday evening next, when a plain and fancy dress ball will be held under its auspices. The name of Miss Elizabeth Bendall was inadvertantly left out of the results of the musical examinations published in last week's Tablet. Miss Bendall was successful in the Preparatory practical examination, being awarded 74 marks.
