PUHOI DAY BY DAY.

Work Accomplished and Expenditure Since 1922. Painting and refurnishing presbytery; painting and repairing church; purchasing a parish hearse and erection of its garage; erecting of new school and convent, etc., at a total cost of £3260. To this enormous sum. those within a ten-mile radius of the Puhoi church contributed no less than £3090. Outside assistance amounted to only £l7O. Now the parishioners are called upon to enlarge their church at a cost of £SOO, as it is hopelessly inadequate to seat more than half the congregation. In view, then, of the heavy expenditure incurred here within the last two years, and bearing in mind the enormous havoc wrought in this district by the recent floods, I, on behalf of the parishioners and on my own behalf, appeal to the generosity and charity of your readers to assist those people who have given such amp proof that they are prepared to assist themselves. All donations gratefully received and kindly acknowledged. Donors of one pound or upwards shall receive a copy of the history of this Bohemian settlement with, the author's compliments.
