September 12. On Monday evening, the Bth inst., a euchre and dance was held in the Riccarton’ Town Hall, in aid of Riccarton parish funds. There was a large attendance, many going out from the city to assist. ° The death occurred on the Bth inst. of Sister Mary St. Amabilis, of the Sisters of Naazreth, Middleton. The interment took place on Thursday, the 11th inst., in the cemetery attached to the. institution. His Lordship the Bishop officiated at the obsequies, assisted by 14 priests from Christchurch and the surrounding districts.—R.l.P. Several provisional churches are to be erected shortly in the suburban districts. His Lordship Bishop Brodie announced at the Cathedral on Sunday that he had secured properties at Marshlands, North Linwood, Beckenham, and Riccarton, and hoped to have four new churches erected thereon before the end of the year. He was negotiating for another site on which to erect a fifth suburban church., The buildings would, for the present, be in the nature cf provisional churches. His Lordship felt that they would be much appreciated by the residents of the different suburbs. On Tuesday evening, the Celtic Club held a social and dance in the Hibernian Hall. The hall was adorfied- with colored streamers, while spring flowers completed the decorations. Music for the dancing was supplied by White’s orchestra, and extras were played by Miss E. Pierce and Mr. Gallagher. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. J. Williamson, - ■ . - / A “coin evening,” promoted by Miss Brophy and Mrs. Blackaby, was held in the Hibernian Hall on Wednesday evening in aid of the refreshment stall in connection with a forthcoming function. A musical programme was contributed and very much enjoyed by those present.' •-
