Prendergast) reports that the financial result of the Marist Brothers’ benefit evening was very satisfactory, and exceeded the most sanguine expectations. Special thanks are due to Mr. and°Mrs. Dickson, of “Dixieland,” Sutherland’s Orchestra, Mrs! I ogarty, Miss AfcDavitt' as well as to the energetic committee. The to the Brothers’ House are just about completed, and will add greatly to the appearance of tin 1 Church property adjoining. Rev. Father T. Hanrahnn has been appointed to the new parish of Riccarton, and will soon be taking up his duties. ° The president of the Catholic Girls’ Hostel, assisted by a. ladies’ committee, arranged a very pleasant function at the hostel on Thursday evening. His Lordship the Bishop .presided. The first part of the programme was an illustrated lecture on a. trip to Mt. Cook and the Southern Lakes, by Air. Leo Hayward. Musical items were given by Miss Ward, Miss Beelton, Rev. Father O’Aloeghan, and Mr. Arthur McDonald.- His Lordship the Bishop thanked the performers; also Airs. Harper and her energetic committee for the pleasant evening they had provided.

The names of the following ladies were inadvertently omitted from my recent report in connection with St Anne’s Guild sale of work: —Sweets Stall, Mesdanics Cosgrove, Dunn, and Stapleton. Tlie .members of the Celtic Football Club held their annual dance in St. Patrick’s Hall, Browne Street, on Jl " y 9 ’ when there was a very large attendance. The hall and. supper room were tastefully decorated with streamers of the club’s colors (rod and green), whilst a. esentation of a. large football, composed of rod and green paper and illuminated with electric bulbs hung suspended from the centre of the ceiling. Chinese lanterns enclosing colored electric bulbs were interspersed here and there, and the hall presented a bright and festive appearance. Mr. P. Stapleton 'controlled the floor which was in splendid order, Miss Campbell’s well known orchestra supplied excellent music and a dainty supper was' dispensed by the ladies’ committee (Mrs. J. P. Leigh and the Misses N. McAtecr, M. E. Collins, K. and N. Costigan). The decorations wore in the capable hands of Messrs. C. Harding and J. Leigh, jun., and the electric lighting and spot lights were efficiently worked by Mr. C. Knight. The thanks of the executive aie specially due to the untiring efforts of the club’s secretary (Mr. G. Fleet) and his able assistant Mr. J. Downey, whose for thought and good work helped to make the dance such a splendid success, both socially and financially.
