ST. PATRICK’S HARRIERS, DUNEDIN. The St. Patrick’s Harriers journeyed to Mosgiel on Saturday, and held a run from Holy Cross College as the guests of the rector, the Very Rev. Father Morkane. A good muster of members under the whistles of Captain Mcllroy and Deputy-captain White, made their way across country to Janefield, in the direction of Wingatui racecourse. When the racecourse was reached the members participated in a spirited run on the intended Edmond Cup course, some of the younger members taking the hurdles and water jump in fine style. After leaving the course the trail led on to the Janefield road, to District road,. until the vicinity of the Mosgiel Mills, where a brisk run . home was commenced, and resulted in White being first, closely followed by Cull and Clutterbuck. After the run the club was entertained to tea by the rector of the college. Captain Mcllroy, on behalf of the members, thanked Father Morkane for his kindness and for the very fine run he had given them. Next Saturday the club ‘will run from the home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Anderson’s Bay. CELTIC LADIES’ HOCKEY CLUB, TIMARU. (From our own correspondent.) On the sth inst,, in St. Patrick’s Hall, a highly successful euchre party and dance was held in aid of the newly formed Celtic Ladies’ Hockey Club. The hall was artistically decorated with green and gold, the club colors festooned the building, and the wealth of pretty dresses and graceful dancers made a very cheery sight. Campbell’s orchestra was in attendance, Mr. P. Stapleton made an excellent M.C., and the supper arrangements were capably attended to. The Rev. Father Hurley distributed the prizes, to Mrs. Sullivan and Mr. Geo. Flett. The president (Mr. J. Lysaght), secretary (Miss Morgan), Misses Rodgers and Graham, together with the committee received hearty congratulations upon the great success of the social. ST. PATRICK’S MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB, TIMARU. (From our own correspondent.) - The annual meeting of the above was held recently in St. Patrick’s Hall, when the president (Mr. J. Murphy) presided over a large attendance of members. The balance sheet was read and received. The auditor (Mr. C. Clarke) reported favorably on the position of the club as disclosed by the satisfactory balance sheet. The election of officebearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:Patron, Rev. A very enthusiastic meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman. , CELTIC CRICKET CLUB, TIMARU. (From our own correspondent.) In celebration of their winning the Bristol Cup three years in succession and the South Canterbury Senior Cup two years in succession, a complimentary social was tendered to the members of the Celtic Cricket Club by the Catholic Club in St. Patrick’s Hall, TimarU, on the 12th inst. The Rev. Father Hurley, S.M., presided over a large attendance, which included representatives of all . the ath-

letic clubs of the parish. In introducing the representatives of the S.C, Cricket Association (Messrs. "G. P. Wood and A, E. Izzard), the chairman said that the object of the gathering was to show their esteem and admiration in the 'first place to the Celtic senior eleven, and also to the rifle' team,- and to St. John’s C grade tennis team, both of which. had also proved, successful in their respective pastimes. In regard to the cricket team, they were all especially proud of the manner in which the team had acquitted themselves both on and off the field. They had persevered, and principally owing to the amount of practice put in on their pitch, they had ultimately proved successful, thereby setting a splendid example to all the athletic clubs. The growth and success of the club was due in a great measure to the influence of their leader (Mr. M. Houlihan). The chairman welcomed Messrs. Wood and Izzard, who thanked the Catholic Club for the kind invitation. Mr. Wood, in a splendid speech, then handed over the Bristol Cup to Mr. Houlihan amidst hearty applause. Mr. Houlihan in replying stated that he had the honor of leading a very fine: team, men who had done well for the club and for the province. Brother Virgilius, on behalf of the Catholic Club, paid a warm tribute to Air. Houlihan (who is also captain of the Celtic Football senior fifteen) for his characteristics as a fine sportsman, and then handed over a nice medal suitably inscribed. Brother iigilius also spoke of the outstanding performances of Mr. Joseph Kane, who is acknowledged to be the best allround cricketer in South Canterbury. The club members were especially proud of his achievement against the N.S.W. team in hitting, up 108 runs in .splendid style. Mr. J. P. Leigh on behalf of the Rifle Club, and Mr. P. B. Hogan, for the Tennis Club, returned thanks for the complimentary social. During the evening a card tournament was held, and musical items were contributed by Miss K. Dennehy, and Messrs. Ryan and Tennant. Miss Dennehy accompanied in her usual finished manner. After a dainty supper was served by the ladies, the floor was cleared and dancing was indulged in for a couple of hours.
