His Lordship Dr. Liston arrived in Thames on Friday to lie present at the funeral of the late Mrs. Kate Twohili Sah,rfla >' : 1,1 "P** 11 U«e uew convent school on Sunday a ternoon, and administer the Sacrament of Confirmation in ihe. evening. He left again for Auckland on Monday morning. J Rev. Father Dunphy, of Paeroa, visited Thames on Sunday to assist at Confirmation in the evening. On Sunday evening his Lordship Dr. Liston adminiseied the Sacrament of Confirmation to about 40 children He was assisted by Rev. Fathers Dignan, P.P., and Dunphy’ of Paeroa. 1 The nett receipts of the bazaar in aid of the new school amount to £1176 8s Od. This is a record, and the committee and willing helpers are to be congratulated on such a splendid result. The death of Mrs. Kate Twohili, on December 6, cast a gloom over the parish where she was held in such respect By her demise the Church has lost one of its most generous supporters. The' sympathy of the whole parish is extended to the deceased lady’s family. The examinations for the 6th Standard Proficiency Certificate took place last week, and the Sisters of St Joseph are to be congratulated on the splendid results from the convent school. All the candidates secured proficiency certificates. J The opening of St. Francis’s Tennis Club for the season 1923-24 took place last Saturday. There was a good crowd of visitors present to witness Rev. Father Dignan open the court. During the afternoon tea was served on the lawn in the shade of the beautiful willow trees. Many interesting and exciting games were witnessed during the afternoon.
