The Christian Brothers’ Australian Juniorate

The Christian Brothers have more than sixty schools . in various parts of the Commonwealth and New Zealand. To maintain efficient staffs in these, makes a great demand on the resources of the training college, Strathfield. Moreover, applications from new Communities are constantly being made to the Brother Provincial, but he, through want of Brothers, is unable to accede to all these pressing requests. For some time, therefore, the opening of a preparatory school or juniorate has been under consideration ; but various obstacles hitherto hindered this laudable project. St. Enda's Juniorate has now been established, and boys of fourteen years and over who desire to join the Congregation of the Christian Brothers will be received and educated prior to their entrance into the novitiate. Many pupils of the Brothers' schools throughout Australia have already signified their intention of dedicating their lives to the grand work of Catholic education, and the Brothers have been able to begin work in St. Enda's with over 50 young Australians. This is most gratifying, for in the matter of vocations to the priesthood and religious life, Australia must more and more depend on her own resources. Ireland has long been the great recruiting ground, for it is the pride of the Irish "family to have at least one member consecrated to the service of God; but under the new conditions it is uncertain to what extent Australia 5 can call upon the Old Land. ; , V ■"7t!' ; *-
