Catholic Club, Timaru

(From our own correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Catholic Club was held at St. Patrick's Hall on the 27th ult., when there was a good attendance, Rev. Fathers Hurley, Barra, and O'Ferrali being among those present. The president (Rev. Father O'Ferrall) presided. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted after a brief discussion. It is pleasing to report that the club made remarkable progress last year, chiefly due to the valuable work of the executive, especially the president and secretary. The membership stood at 244. Receipts were £246 and disbursements £243. The delegates representing the affiliated societies and clubs submitted satisfactory reports. Rev. Father Hurley congratulated the club on the general success, achieved last year, and predicted another good year for the club. He specially stressed the advisability of a better attendance at the literary meetings. Two members endorsed the remarks of their pastor. The election of office-bearers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron, Rev. Father Hurley, S.M. (re-elected) president, Rev. Father O'Ferrali, S.M. (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. R. J. Cud-don-Largo and J. B. Crowley (re-elected); secretary, Mr. J. P. Leigh (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr. Thos. Cotter; treasurer, Mr. J. G. Venning; executive Messrs. W. Stirling, F. Geaney (re-elected). J. Collins, C. Clarke, L. McAteer, J. Daly, P. J. O'Gorman, J. Fitzmaurice, and J. Crowley, jun.; auditor, Mr. Geo. Flett. Sub-com-mittees will be elected later, and the various clubs are to elect delegates to represent them on the general club. The next club concert is arranged for the 12th inst., when a very good programme is to be presented, and a few will make their debut. The club is doing its best to foster local talent, and has already met with a good response.
