Obituary
MRS. MARY CULHANE, THAMES. Mrs. Mary Culhane, of Irishtown, Thames, passed away in the hospital on the evening of the 13th March (writes a correspondent). The deceased was a very old and much respected resident of the Thames, having lived there for the past 50 years. The late Mrs. Culhane was born in Co. Limerick, Ireland, and came out to Queensland when at an early age. From there she came to New Zealand. Her husband predeceased her 23 years ago. She had no family of her own, but an adopted son and daughter survive her. Rev, Father Dignan, who attended her during her long illness, officiated at the interment. —R.I.P, MR. MICHAEL HEALY, WESTPORT. The many friends of Mr. Michael Healy, an old and very highly respected resident of the Grey district, will regret to hear of his death, which occurred at the O’Conor Home, Westport, on the 4th inst. (writes a correspondent). A native of Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, where he was born in 1860, Mr, Healy always retained a fervency of faith and a great love for his homeland. Coming to New Zealand accompanied by his wife in 1881, he followed mining for a few years at Nelson Creek, but left the goldfields to take up land at Ngahere, where he resided for over 30 years. Latterly, his health beginning to fail, he retired and lived in Grey mouth until 13 months ago, when he came to the O’Conor Home. The late Mr. Healy was a man of a very kindly and lovable disposition, and earned the esteem and affection of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His upright life merited and obtained for him the grace of a truly happy death, being assisted in his last illness by Right Rev. Mgr. Walshe (chaplain to the home), and by Rev. Father Sweeney, who also conducted the last rites. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, both in religion Sister Teresa of the local convent, who was with him in his last moments, and Sister M. Canice, of the Hokitika Convent; a third daughter predeceased him by about 15 years.—R.l.P. ■
