TURKS HONOR POPE
Unique in the history o fthe Turkish government is the tribute which has just been paid to the late Pope Benedict by order of the Council of Ministers at Constantinople. Turkish flags on all public buildings were at halfmast in respect to the Pontiff’s memory. This was the first time that the Ottoman Government took official part in mourning for the death df a Christian or foreign sovereign; and this recognition was accorded in spite of formal regulations.
