ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON
(From our own correspondent.) March 24. The many- friends of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McGrath, of Wellington, will be interested to learn that they are at Rome. Mr, and Mrs. McGrath, introduced by one of the Papal Delegates, were presented to and accorded the honor of a private audience with his Holiness the new Pope. The New Zealanders were the first from the overseas Dominions to be presented to the Pope. Mr. and Mrs. McGrath were both enjoying the best of health when the cable was despatched from Rome. Sermons on St. Patrick were delivered by the Rev. Fathers Gilbert, S.M. (Rector of St. Patrick’s College), and Kane, 5.M.,-last Sunday at St. Francis’s, Island Bay, and St. Joseph’s, Buckle Street. The amount realised at the Kilbirnle Parish Bazaar was £6OO. The weekly euchre party at the Federation Rooms last week in aid of the St. Joseph’s Bazaar was a most successful function. Mr. Frank J. Doolan, of the Railway Dept., after a short stay here, has been transferred to Wanganui. There was a large and enthusiastic attendance of members of the Soccer football branch at the Marist Old Boys’ Association last Wednesday. It was decided to enter teams for all grades this season. The Rugby branch of the Marist Brothers’ Old Boys’ Association will send a team to Christchurch to play the Old Boys’ team of that city.
