NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTATION DESIRED. The following cablegram lias been received by Mr. M. J. Sheahan, of Auckland: Dail Eireann invites your co-operation in sending a team of Irish athletes from New Zealand to compete in Tailtean games (Irish Race Olympic Games), Dublin, in August next. Posting particulars.— J. J. Walsh, T.D., Director of Games. Cablegrams, ‘ Olympic, Dublin.’ ” In connection with the foregoing cablegram, a meeting of the Auckland executive officers of the Self-Determination League was held, and the following circular was drafted and ordered to be sent to the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Committees and Irish organisations throughout the Dominion; “The Auckland committee has decided to ask every centre in New Zealand to unite in assisting to send a team of Irish athletes from New Zealand. The request from Ireland is that representatives must be Irish, or of Irish descent, irrespective of creed. Athletes of all branches of sport—running, jumping, swimming, boxing, etc. —will be required, as it is hoped. to send a strong and fully representative team. Your co-operation is needed to choose the most suitable representatives, and to helu the committee to finance the tour. We ask you to take special note of all performances of Irish athletes in your centre, and rouse their enthusiasm and the interest of the people of your district ; and do what you can to form a. strong committee for this special purpose. We will send you further particulars on receipt of Mr. Walsh’s letter. Meanwhile, we would be pleased to hear from you urgently on this matter.” It was decided to forward this circular and cable to the New Zealand Tablet, and to respectfully ask the Rev. Editor to extend his potent assistance in furthering the object of sending a team from this Dominion. Already two < applications from two well-known Irish performers in this Dominion to be included in the proposed team have been received by the Auckland committee. Of course the main thing will be that of finance, but with a united effort New Zealand should be represented in this great gathering of the Gaels in Dublin next August. Meanwhile Mr. Walsh’s letter with particulars is anxiously awaited.
