St. Joseph’s Glee Club will resume practices on Monday evening next at 7.30. All members are requested to bring their copies of the operetta.

Very Rev, Father Slattery, 0.M., of Ashfield, Sydney, is at present engaged conducting a Retreat for the Dominican Nuns at Teschemakers.

Rev. Brother Burton, of the Christian Brothers’ College, Adelaide, South Australia, is at present on a visit to his relatives in Dunedin, and is staying with his sister, Mrs. T. J. Hussey, of Roslyn.

The Retreat for ladies at Teschemakers, conducted by Rev. Father Vincent, Marist Missioner, /was concluded on Tuesday. The -Retreat was attended by 40 ladies, and all were deeply impressed with the pleasant days they spent there.

Very Rev. Dr. Brophy, P.P. of Dubbo, New South Males, spent a few days last week in Dunedin as the guest of Right Rev. Dr. Whyte at the Bishop’s Palace. After spending a day or two at Gore Dr. Brophy intended going on to Queenstown. His friends in Australia will be pleased to learn that he is steadily improving in health.

There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from the eleven o’clock Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Sun-, day (Feast of the Circumcision). After Compline in the evening his Lordship the Bishop, in an impressive discourse, reviewed the outstanding events of the year just closed. Treating of the golden jubilee of the diocese and of the arrival of the Dominican Nuns, his Lordship paid an eloquent tribute to the heroic labors of the pioneer French missionary Fathers and of the late Bishop Moran and the early Irish priests who succeeded them. He referred to the recent visit of the Apostolic Delegate to the Dominion, and to the centenary celebrations in connection with St. Mary’s Cathedral. In touching - terms his Lordship fipoke of the trials of the infant Church in Australia and the fearful tribulations to which Father Therry and the first priests of the convict days were subjected. Dr. Whyte concluded by pointing out the lesson conveyed in the experiences of the past year, and most cordially wished his people all the blessings of a happy and prosperous New Year. His Lordship then officiated at Pontifical Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, which was preceded by the usual procession.
