Sister Laurencia, Provincial of the Sisters of St. Joseph, has improved in. health considerably, - and, as all are delighted to hear, on a fair way to recovery. The church in Jrlenderson has been finally cleared of debt, thanks to the generous donation of Mr. McCormack (£SO), and there is now a small credit balance on hand. The Sisters and school children of St. Patrick's are working hard to make the children's garden fete, which is to take place on September 24, a great success. •"■"•.:

The religious examinations of the diocese will commence this year early in October, and the results will be published inter-parochia.l(ly. The programme for this year will be the same as for last year’s examination.

Sister M. Ligouri, of the Sacred Heart Order, passed peacefully away at the Sacred Heart Convent, Remuera, on September 7. Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated in the convent chapel on the following day by Rev. Father Kelly. Fathers Murphy, Doyle, and Forde were the deacon, subdeacon, and M.C. respectively, and Very Rev. Dean Cahill officiated at the graveside. —R.l.P.

Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church, Ponsonby, on Tuesday, August 30, for the repose of the soul of Rev. Brother Benignus's father. His Lordship the Bishop presided, Father Colgan, a past pupil of the college, was celebrant. Father Carran deacon, Father Finn subdeacon, and—Very Rev. Chancellor Holbrook, master of ceremonies. Very Rev. Dean Cahill was also present. The Brothers, students, and a • large congregation of the laity assisted at the Mass. The annual military training camp of the pupils of the Sacred Heart College will be commenced next Monday, under the scheme known as "school barracks."' Under this system the'group officer, Captain Atwell, and his staff, will take charge of the school as barracks, and for the period of training— days will exercise military routine. King's College has applied for a similar scheme of training in December, the officers and non-commissioned, officers of the school to fulfil their military training obligations, by taking charge of the barracks. " ° The death of Mrs. Gilbert Ward occurred at the Mater Misencordiae Hospital on August 21, after a protracted illness, fortified by the last sacred rites of her holy religion. She leaves three sons to mourn their loss. One of her sons (Mr. Howling Ward) is at present studying for the priesthood at the Redemptonst College Bathurst. Mrs. Ward was born in Limerick, Ireland, in 1874, and was a daughter of Mr. Francis Dunne, of the. Audit Department, Wellington. On Friday, September 3, a gift evening in aid of the Sports Queen was held at “Waverley House.” Numerous gifts suitable for raffling and for furnishing a stall were received.
