September 19. Through the efforts of the parish committee of the Catholic Federation, the Mayor’s Fund for the Starving Children of Europe has been handsomely increased. The sum of £l4l 9s 3d was collected in Timaru, and £l6 9s in St. Andrews, making a total for the parish of £157 18s 3d. The Celtic Football Club’s annual . social was one of the happiest and most successful the club has experienced. Amongst the very large gathering were the members of the Wellington rep. team,, who were the club’s "nests for the evening. The “Celts” have had a very successful season, winning the third grade championship, and were rather unfortunate in not winning the senior competition Owing to pressure of other duties, Mr. J P Leigh who } l . as^ en secretary of the Timaru branch* of the Catholic Federation since its inception, has found it necessary to tender his resignation. At a recent meeting of the Federation committee, the resignation was accepted with profound regret, and a hearty vote of thanks accorded Mr. Leigh for the whole-hearted and entirely capable manner in which Ins secretarial duties have been carried out.
