Following is the text:— & Resolved—“ That we, the members of the Board of Aldermen, appreciating the spirit of the Government of the United States in extending its protection and sympathy to all lovers of justice, morality, and democratic self-government, and recognising in the person of his Grace the Most Reverend Daniel Mannix, D.D., Archbishop of Melbourne, the acknowledged champion of Australian Democracy, hereby sincerely and cordially tender unto this great Churchman and apostle of liberty and self-determination to subject peoples throughout the world, the Freedom and Welcome of the City of New York, and urge our fellowcitizens to join us in these our heartfelt felicitations.”
